Going Deeper with God
In 1 Corinthians 2:15-5; 3:1, Paul mentions three types of people: the lost, the carnal, and the spiritual. Everyone is in one of those three groups. Either you’re lost, you’re the natural man; or else you’re saved, but you’re what we call a carnal-Christian or “fleshly.” And then, there’s the spiritual person, the one who’s grown up in the Lord Jesus Christ, walking by faith, not by sight, and walking in the Spirit.
Now, in Exodus 12:1-14, they were in the land of Egypt and God was giving the Hebrew children instructions for preparing the Passover lamb and telling them how to kill a lamb and make an offering out of this lamb. That lamb was a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ. John the Baptist said, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Paul said, “Christ our passover is sacrificed for us” (1 Corinthians 5:7).
I. Keep the Feast:
a. The shed blood of Jesus is the only way to be saved (Hebrews 9:22). In Exodus 12:8, the lamb was to be eaten with unleavened bread. That means when we come to Jesus, we forsake our sin. They were to eat it with bitter herbs meaning brokenness and humility (Psalm 51:17). They were to feed upon all of the lamb (Exodus 12:9-10). When you receive Jesus, it’s all or nothing. (Exodus 12:11) They were to eat it ready to go! Receiving Christ is the beginning of the journey, not the end (Colossians 2:6). When receive the Lamb, you don’t mix it with works (Exodus 12:16, Titus 3:5). It should be a memorial of remembrance (Exodus 12:16).
II. Keep the Feast in Canaan:
a. (Exodus 13:3-5) God said don’t keep the feast in Egypt, don’t keep the feast in the wilderness, but keep the feast in the land of Promise. The natural man is in Egypt. The carnal man is in the wilderness. The spiritual man is in Canaan. Canaan is a picture of the Spirit-filled life. Some people are in Egypt today, in bondage. They haven’t applied the blood, fed on the Lamb, no memorial. Some people have come out of Egypt, they’ve been delivered, but they’re in the wilderness. They haven’t entered Canaan. They’re saved, yet so as by fire. And then, some people went all the way! They’re not the natural man, they’re not the carnal man; they’re the spiritual man. They go all the way on over into Canaan, and they are feeding upon milk and honey that the Lord has for them in the Land of Promise.
III. Living on Canaan Side:
a. (Exodus 13:8-9) When they kept the feast in Canaan, it was to show that what they did, what they thought, and what they said was different: a law in the hand, the mind; and the mouth. When you’re filled with the Spirit, what you say, what you think, and what you do changes (Deuteronomy 12:1,8; Numbers 11:4-6, 16; Numbers 16:3). (Ephesians 1:13-14) God said they would eat the feast of the Passover in Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey, the Land of Promise and your redemption is not complete until He receives you unto Himself! (Joshua 1:1-3) The promise has already been given. All you need to do is receive it. You’re filled with the Spirit just like you’re saved – by faith. You were saved by believing and receiving; and you’re filled with the Spirit by believing and receiving. I pray to God every believer will go deeper with God and get out of the wilderness and into the place God has given them to possess.
